Password Help

My password is no longer working.

If your password was working recently and is no longer working, your password has probably expired. USU passwords expire every 12 months. When your password expired, an email was sent to your preferred email address (set in Banner) to remind you to change your password.

If your password has expired, you can still log in to the USU ID system and change your password by clicking the Change Password link in the menu to the left. You must verify the five challenge questions you selected when you first created your password before you can reset your password.

If you are not able to log in to the ID system, your account may be temporarily locked. To prevent password spoofing, the system automatically locks A-number accounts for 15 minutes if the password is entered incorrectly three times in 30 seconds. If you think this might be the reason you cannot log in, wait 15 minutes before attempting to log in again.

You can also contact the IT Service Desk at 797-4357 to have your password reset.

I received an email saying that my password expired. How do I change my password now?

Once your password has expired, you won't be able to log in to University systems (such as Banner/Access, Exchange, and Aggiemail). You will still be able to log in to the USU ID system with your A-number and expired password to set a new password. To log in and reset your password, click on the Change Password link in the menu to the left. You must also verify the five challenge questions you selected when you first created your password before resetting your password.

I need to create my initial password.

Once you have been assigned a University Identification, A-Number, we encourage you to create your password. You will need your password to log in to your student account, pay your tuition, create a USU email account, and for several other things at Utah State.

Once you have created your password, be sure to remember it!

You will also need to create Challenge Questions. These questions and answers need to be remembered! They will be used to reset your password if you happen to forget your it.

I want to change my password.

To log in to the USU ID system and change your password, click the Change Password link in the menu to the left. You will also be required to set up five challenge questions. Please use discretion when creating the challenge questions and answers. Challenge questions are used to verify your credentials if you forgot your password and need to reset it. Also, should you need password assistance from the IT Service Desk, the Service Desk representative will ask you the challenge questions over the phone and verify your answers before helping you with your password.

Once you have changed your password and selected challenge questions, you will also need to set your preferred email address in order to receive password expiration reminders and other important University notifications. To set your preferred email address, click the Email link in the menu to the left and select Preferred. The preferred email address can be your Aggiemail account (students, alumni, emeriti), your Aggies Exchange account (faculty and staff), or any email address that you check on a regular basis. The University will use this email address for all official University email communication, so it is imperative that your preferred email is always kept current.
